Ribeira, Salvador, Bahia, Brazil

Wow.  It’s been a long time since new pictures have gone up!  While I love taking pictures, grad school plus working does not allow me a lot of time to indulge in this hobby.  But when grad school plus work allows you to travel to Salvador for six weeks to study Portugues…well, you gotta take some pictures!

I traveled with a small group right outside of the city of Salvador to a small neighborhood called Ribeira.  We visited an ice cream parlor that’s been serving sorvette since 1834, the Church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim, and saw the sunset on the water (or what was left of it).

Snapshots of Brazil

I am in Brazil for about 5 weeks for class, research, work, and pleasure.  I have been in Rio for about 2 weeks with plans to visit Bahia and Minas Gerais states as well.  Here is a sampling of all the beauty around me:  beaches, favelas, rain forests, cobbled streets, cathedrals, and chope (beer)…always chope.  Enjoy!

Postcards from Cuba

I was very fortunate to visit the island of Cuba as part of my grad school program in 2003 and recently came across these photos.  The joy from the island’s population was palpable and I hope one day to return.  In the meanwhile, I have these and many more memories.  Take a look!

Snow Day!

An unprecedented 8 inches of snow fell down on Atlanta last night (I might have made that up).  I went for a walk in it and took a few pictures!

If you have visited this site before, you may notice a change or two…a new face lift for the new year.  What do you think?  It has been a while since I’ve last posted–a full-time PhD program, travel, work, you know… life.  I have pledged that despite all that is going on in 2011, I will begin to move my photography forward!  So onward we go…
